This morning, I awoke, decided I had too much excess liquid in my head to go to school, and found out the Democrats had almost completely ousted the Republicans in house and senate seats. I began giggling triumphantly. While I am stolidly non-partisan, I do enjoy change. I am optimistic enough to hope that this new group of socially irresponsible old men will do better than the old. But all of that is not why I decided to pull the starter cord on the blogging machine.
A group of reporters queried of the current Dynastic Emperor of the Oval Office as to what his thoughts on the current state of the congressional melee may be. To this, the man who represents our entire country (at least the job description says so), the fellow who is supposed to hold the most respected position in this ostensibly great country expels from his eminent mouth "It was a thumpin'."
I don't think any amount of sarcasm could adequately express my dualistic feelings of humor and crushing dread at this moment, so I will simply state it as simply and succinctly as I can: George W. Bush is a foolish hick. He justifies every ill feeling anyone has for America. All of those things the French are purported to say? As much as I agreed with them before, never has there been such a glaring instance of re-affirmation. All of the accusations of decadence, idiocy, and greed? Encased in our President, easily observable in his actions and phrases.
Imagine. Woodrow Wilson, during World War I, finds out his congressional majority has been yanked from beneath his feet, as actually happened. The journalists come for his response, to which the bespectacled, pale, educated fellow replies, "Well, by golly, they hornswaggled us!" While humorous (depending on your imagination), this was meant to prove a point: Mr. Bush is completely unfit to be a president. In these days, with all the cabinet members, counsel, and graft, a president has almost no responsibilities aside from being charismatic and refined. The trouble is, Bush only fits one of those, and that like trying to start your Sable with the key to your Taurus. Saying Bush is charismatic is conditionally true; he has the kind of "good ol' boy" quaintness to him, not to mention looking adorable when he's angry. But this isn't the kind of charisma a president needs. Bush is completely devoid of refinement.
Anyhow, his time in power is waning, and it is comforting to know that his palsied intelligence will be canceled by the Democrats' pretentiousness. We may get to see the check and balance system work correctly for once. This also means a slow, steady decline to the war on terror, yet immeasurably quicker than letting its own diseases kill it. Well, hope you kids enjoyed the Iraq war. It was a thumpin'.
